A Drink from a Stranger

Min's phone buzzed. "Hey Min," Kavitha's voice come over the earpiece. She sounded a little sheepish. "Err..."

"Oh no! Don't tell me you;re bailing out on me as well?" Min wailed.

"Sorry, there are too many rumours of women being drugged there and molested. The others can;t make it tonight and I don't think it's safe for just the two of us to go," Kavitha reasoned. "let's go next Friday when everyone's free, okay?"

"Whatever," retorted Min. She hadbeen looking forward to this and if she had to go alone, she would. The new dance club had a swanky decor and despite the drug rumours, it was the "in" place. What were the odds of something happening to her? She would just be exra careful and not accept drinks from strangers.

As Min walked into the club, some men were already eyeing her. She smoothed down her sexy black number. Who knows, she thought, she might just meet the man of her dreams tonight.

Min sat herself down at the bar and ordered a cocktail. Soon, a tall, decent-looking man made his way to her.

"Hello. MInd if I join you?" the man flsahed a gorgeous smile.

"Not at all," said Min. They exchanged names and chatted for a few minutes before he asked her for a dance.

After close to an hour on the dance floor, the man leaned over and said ,"Hey, I'm beat. Let's rest and have a drink."

"Sure. I'll meet you at the bar. I need to powder my nose first," replied Min.

When she returned, he already had a drink for her. "is lime juice okay?"

Min smiled gratefully, taking a few sips of the thirst-quenching drink.

"My friends and I are heading for some roti canai. Care to join us? he asked.

Min nodded. She stood up. But she suddenly felt dizzy. As she walked out of the club, everything became a hazy blur. Her last thought before she fainted was "Never accept a drink froma stranger..."

Min woke up to unfamiliar surroundings. She looked around and realised she was in a hospital. Her mother was sitting to her left, her eyes red.

"Mum, did anything happen to me? Tell me the truth!" Min cried out.

"Calm doen, dear. Dr Ong said that you fainted due to low blood sugar levels. It's nothing serious, really. Oh, here's the good doctor now. I'll let him explain."

Min glanced towards the doorway. It was th man who slipped her a drink at the club. "You're a doctor?" Min gulped.

"Yes. And how are you? It's not often a damsel falls into my arms a few hours after we meet," Dr Ong laughed.
